Identity

Chosen and Loved

Just as the Lord says in the book of Hosea, ‘Although they are not my people, I will make them my people. I will treat with love those nations that have never been loved.’

Romans 9:25 CEV

God always planned to have a family. His quest did not end when Adam and Eve left the garden. Even after sin disrupted the fellowship God intended, His love continued to pursue humanity. The Old Testament is filled with messages declaring there would be a people chosen and loved by God.

The prophets knew this well and proclaimed it to encourage the Israelites. Through covenant, promise, correction, and mercy, God showed that He had not forgotten His people. Yet His plan was even bigger than anyone could have imagined. His heart was not limited to one nation; He was making a way for people from every nation to become His own.

In Romans 9, the apostle Paul explains both God’s choosing of Israel and the wideness of God’s mercy. He points back to Hosea to show that those once considered outside could be called God’s people and receive His love. Jews and Gentiles alike stand before God not because they earned a place in His family, but because He is merciful.

Everything depends on what God decides to do. God chooses who will share in His glory, and every believer can recognize that because of Jesus, they too have been chosen and loved. This is not a reason for pride; it is an invitation to gratitude. We did not find our way to God by our own strength. He reached for us first.

Today, remember that your identity is held securely in the love of God. You are not overlooked, unwanted, or beyond His reach. Through Jesus, you have been welcomed into the family God planned from the beginning. Let His mercy quiet every question about whether you belong. You are His beloved.

Reflections

Have you ever felt overlooked, unwanted, or outside of God’s love? Reflect on the truth that your place in God’s family rests on His mercy, not your ability to earn it. How does being chosen and loved through Jesus shape the way you see yourself and others today?

Prayer

Father, thank You for pursuing a family from the beginning and for making a way for me to belong through Jesus. Thank You that Your mercy, not my striving, has called me Your own. When I feel overlooked or unworthy, remind me that I am chosen and loved by You. Help me receive Your grace with humility and extend that same love to others. In Jesus Name, Amen.
