An Inheritance Worth Leaving

But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

Deuteronomy 4:9 NLT

Moses was not speaking to historians when he gave this charge. He was speaking to ordinary people who had seen extraordinary things — people who had watched the Red Sea part, who had eaten bread that fell from the sky, who had followed a pillar of fire through the dark. He was speaking to people who had seen God show up in ways that defied every natural explanation.

And his warning was simple: do not forget. Do not let the memories fade. Do not let the busyness of ordinary life slowly crowd out the record of what God has done. And more than that — make sure the people who come after you know the story.

I understand this charge personally. My relationship with God is what I treasure most here on earth. Not my accomplishments, not my possessions — this. The years of conversation with Him, the moments of clarity in the middle of confusion, the times He answered before I even finished asking. These are the things I want my children and grandchildren to have access to long after I am gone.

For years I have been journaling — writing to God and with God, recording what He has shown me, what He has done, what He has spoken into the quiet places of my life. Those pages are full of His faithfulness. And I made a decision: I would not let those memories stay locked in a notebook. I would shape them into something my family could hold onto. A devotional book. A written inheritance.

Then something shifted. After the tragic death of a beloved evangelist, I felt the urgency of now. We do not always have as much time as we think. The stories that need to be told need to be told today. So I began sharing these journal entries — these memories of God's goodness — through this website. What started as a gift for my family became an offering to anyone who needed to be reminded that God is real, that He is faithful, and that He shows up.

Moses was right. The memories are too important to keep to yourself. They are not just your story — they are evidence. Evidence that God keeps His promises, that He walks with His people, that no valley is too deep for His presence to reach. When you write it down, when you speak it out, when you pass it on — you are doing something holy. You are building a bridge between your faith and the faith of the generation that comes after you.

Do not let the memories escape. They are part of the inheritance.

Reflections

What are the most significant moments in your walk with God — the times His faithfulness was undeniable? Have you written them down? Is there someone in your life — a child, a grandchild, a younger friend — who needs to hear your story? What is one memory of God's goodness you could record or share this week?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for every moment You have shown up in my life. Thank You for the memories I carry — the answered prayers, the unexpected provisions, the peace that came when nothing else made sense. I do not want to forget a single one. Help me to be faithful to write them down, to speak them out, and to pass them on. Let the story of Your faithfulness in my life become a bridge that leads the people I love straight to You. This website, these words, these devotionals — I offer them back to You. May they honor You and may they strengthen the faith of everyone who reads them. In Jesus Name, Amen.
