Carried on Eagles' Wings
"You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me."
Exodus 19:4-5 NLT
One of the most remarkable things God does throughout Scripture is pause and say — look back. Remember what you saw. Remember what I did.
He does it here at Mount Sinai, standing at one of the most pivotal moments in Israel's story. Before He gives the covenant, before He lays out what He is asking of His people, He grounds everything in evidence. You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles' wings.
This is not a God who asks for blind trust. He is a God who builds a case. He says: I have already shown you who I am. I have already proven that I act on your behalf. Now, from that place of knowing — choose me.
The image of eagles' wings is one of the most tender in all of Scripture. An eagle does not drag its young through the journey — it lifts them. It carries them above the terrain that would exhaust them, above the predators that would threaten them, above the obstacles that would stop them. And it brings them not just to safety, but to itself.
That is what God did for Israel. That is what God does for you.
Throughout the Bible, God reveals His ways to His people again and again — not because He needs to justify Himself, but because He wants us to know Him well enough to trust Him fully. Every account of His faithfulness is a reminder written for us. Every story of His deliverance is a deposit in the account of our confidence.
And the invitation that follows is always the same: now that you know Me, walk with Me. Obey Me. Keep the covenant. Not to earn His love — you already have that — but to position yourself to receive everything He has prepared for those who are His.
Faithfulness is not a burden. It is the open hand that receives what God has been holding out all along.
Look back at what He has already done in your life. Let that be the ground you stand on today.
Reflections
What is one moment in your own life where you can clearly see that God carried you — where you came through something you could not have managed on your own? Let that memory strengthen your faithfulness today. How does remembering what God has already done change how you approach what is ahead?
Prayer
Lord, when I look back I can see Your hand — the times You carried me, the moments You intervened, the seasons where only Your faithfulness explains how I made it through. Thank You for being a God who shows up and then points back to it so I will not forget. I choose faithfulness today. I choose to walk in Your ways and keep close to You — not to earn Your love, but because I already know how good You are. Reward my faithfulness as only You can. In Jesus Name, Amen.
